Ma'an- The Australian representative office to the Palestinian Authority has issued the following press release:


$3.75 million to the UNRWA 2006 Emergency Appeal

The Australian Government has announced a package of $3.75 million in humanitarian assistance for Palestinian refugees. These funds will be administered by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) who are currently providing health, education, shelter and food aid to Palestinian refugees in the Palestinian territories (West Bank and Gaza), Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

UNRWA estimate that there are more than four million registered Palestine refugees living in the Middle East including more than one and a half million living in the Palestinian territories.
